Last weekend I attended a fun beauty event at Nordstrom Bellevue Square. Clinique partnered with Allure magazine to offer skin care consultations and makeovers along with some lovely goody bags full of Clinique products and the March issue of Allure! Hosting the event was the lovely Ariana Lallone. More on her to come, plus an exciting giveaway from Allure and Clinique!

We’ve all had those moments in life where we’re at a crossroads and have to determine how to start towards the next chapter. Whether it’s moving to a new city, a new job, or a new path in life, Clinique and Allure are trying to inspire people to #StartBetter in any new venture. Ariana Lallone is a fantastic example of this idea. As you can see, she’s a statuesque, fit, ballet dancer, and upon first glance looks like the epitome of confidence. The thought of her ever being intimidated or scared to try anything seemed crazy to me! Once we talked and I heard her story, though, she truly embodies that #StartBetter mentality.

Ariana was a principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet for 25 years before her retiring in 2011. After she left the PNB, she began performing in a series of shows with Teatro Zinzanni, which was outside her comfort zone. “For me, going through the process of leaving the ballet where I was really comfortable and going into a totally new environment was crazy! I started doing Lyra (aerial hoop) work, speaking more in a theater setting, and worked on not being afraid.”

Soon after, The Seattle Gym approached her about joining their PTX Barre program, and she said yes to yet another totally new opportunity. She’s a big believer in the power of ballet in your fitness regime, but wanted to make ballet more accessible to everyone, even those without years of experience. “Going into the gym and teaching these classes, it was so different, but so worth it. I was in the mode of saying yes, and it was fun to see what I was doing was inspiring other people.”

It’s important to remind ourselves that closing one door can give way to new opportunities in life, even ones we least expected. I know I’ve felt this way in my own life, that leaving something behind would leave only a void in it’s place. Life is long, and there are so many great things out there to explore. You just have to open yourself up to something new and pursue it without fear. Just say yes. In other words, #StartBetter.

Clinique and Allure were sweet enough to send me two goody bags from the event, one for me and one to share with one lucky Lindsay Living reader. And let me tell you, this bag is full of great stuff!
