People, it’s been a brutal week. As you may have read, I’ve been super sick and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I made extensive sub plans and will be home tomorrow in bed, where I belong, with my orange/7UP sicky cocktail, my cats and hopefully Funny Girl. I’ll probably post today’s outfit tomorrow since I am exhausted.
This week’s Friend Friday (I almost typed Fried Friday…that sounds good too…) is all about making your blog unique. In a world full of bloggers of every variety, here is a little tiny bit about how this new blogger tries to keep things interesting. Thanks to Katy for some interesting questions this week.
1. With all the blogging events out there how do you determine which ones to participate in and which ones to avoid?
I guess I choose to be apart of things that excite me as a reader. Kendi’s 30 for 30 seemed like a fun opportunity to remix my own things, but the bigger reason for getting into it was probably because I enjoyed searching back through Kendi’s photos through her last 30 for 30 so much. I try to stick with things I know I would want to read.
2. Be honest, have you ever jumped on the bandwagon of some blogging movement/event for the wrong reasons? How did that turn out?
I am being totally honest in saying that I haven’t…but keep in mind that I’ve only been blogging here since late November. In that time I’ve joined up in Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, No Pants Week, and the 30 for 30 Remix. Again, I think I go with the above stated theory: I participate in things that I like to read. I hope I can keep it that way. I figure it’s pretty doable considering it’s my blog and all 😉
3. How do you give your own flair to a blog event while still maintaining the general mission and purpose?
When it comes to outfit challenges like the 30 for 30 or No Pants Week, I suppose the flair comes from wearing things my own way. While I may get inspiration from other bloggers, I’ve never copied a look exactly. I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to a challenge I try to keep it real.
4. When determining the best content for your blog what criterion do you keep in mind?
I felt pretty strongly that I wanted to maintain a singular focus on fashion. But when I considered what to blog on I initially considered a music blog. Although most of my content is focused on fashion and my efforts toward personal style and a working closet, I integrate some musical stuff too, through my Music Monday posts, which I’ve gotten a good response to so far. In a nutshell? Fashion focused, a dash of music, and if it’s important to me then it goes in.
5. While everything will not suit your blog, how do you try and support your fellow bloggers who are participating in something worthwhile but not your style?
When it comes to my fellow bloggers, I show my love and support through comments that show I care about what they had to say. I visit many of my favorite blogs everyday and I enjoy the back and forth conversation between us as we visit each other’s sites. Even if something isn’t for me, I still enjoy cheering them on along the way.
