blue-area rug

As I’ve updated my space bit by bit, I always knew finding the right area rug would be one of the most important and difficult decisions I would have to make. I loved my old brown one, but as you may have picked up from previous Happy Home posts, I have become kind of hell bent on getting rid of any last remaining bits of brown that have lingered since my previous apartments. My focus has been on infusing the space with cool, crisp greys and white with hits of blue and black as anchors in the space.

My mama and stepdad wanted to buy me something for the Christmas holiday that would contribute to my redesign project and somehow generously decided to get me a rug. Sweet! I cruised some of my favorite sites for ideas, but then quickly went to Overstock and got stuck there for weeks having had my mind completely blown. There were a million options in the price range/size range I was looking for. Narrowing it down to grey or blue rugs didn’t help much as there were a ton of those, too. See for yourself

After looking at rugs for weeks I finally picked one, my mama ordered it and it was delivered a couple days after Christmas and it completely changed my space. See the difference after the jump.

Alright, here’s my old braid print rug, purchased on clearance at Pottery Barn in 2008. I still love it and am going to hang onto it, but for now it doesn’t work in my space so it’s rolled up in storage.

And here’s the beauty I finally decided on from Overstock…

new rug
It’s a Safavieh Moroccan Chatham wool rug, 5×8 in a soft grey and ivory. I was looking for a high pile rug like the one I had before, and this is 0.5″ high and so plush and comfortable. The grey is more of a soft bluish grey in person, which was unexpected when I took off the plastic and rolled it out, but I really like how it looks in my little place. Not to mention the fact that it was a steal. Getting that major bunch of mismatched brown out from in front of my soft grey sofa really helped to snap the color scheme together. It’s a lot of grey in one area, but I think it really works.

On the next Happy Home post, I’ll share photos of one of my furniture redesigns. Have a lovely day!
