The scarf on the left is one I purchased at Banana Republic (albeit with an employee discount) that retailed for $68. The scarf on the right is made of the same kind of cotton jersey fabric (my favorite!) for just $8.99. This might be the easiest DIY ever.
Here’s how to make your own Cotton Jersey Scarf:
- At the fabric store find someone who can direct you to find the cotton jersey fabrics. Here you’ll find lots of options. Since my favorite cotton jersey scarves from BR are both solid colors, I went for this bold stripe print. It’s navy and ivory and I could see it going with just about everything.
- Go to the cutting counter and have them cut the scarf for you. My BR scarf is 1.5 yards and is pretty full. For my DIY scarf I went for 1 yard. You can go as long as 2 yards if you want to do lots of fancy tying with it.
Seriously. That’s it. If I had known I could make one for less than $9 I would never have splurged on my favorite BR scarves! I didn’t hem or trim my scarf because my pink BR one isn’t and it’s worn beautifully. The ends will naturally roll under, which is also a fun thing about the jersey fabric. See what I mean…
If you take the plunge and create one of your own, please wear on your blog and leave a link here in the comments. I would love to see what patterns or colors you found!
