Earlier this month I hosted a fun ornament party with my best girlfriends from college. We started out with a white-elephant style ornament exchange and lots of holiday treats and then crafted our own ornaments using some ideas I found on Pinterest. Check out my holiday crafts board for some inspiration if you’re thinking of doing some holiday ornament crafting of your own.
For my party I organized three ornament crafts. The first, shown above, were inspired by these painted glass ornaments. Luckily for me and my friend Caroline who helped with the craft projects, our local craft store was sold out of the plain round glass balls so we got these fun vintage-shaped ones instead. Caroline also had the bright idea to Mod Podge some white, sparkly, snow-like glitter along the top. I made three for my tree!
For our next project, we made these stunning ribbon ball ornaments. We bought lots of options for ribbons and everyone who made one came up with an interesting color combination. They are a little time consuming when doing your first one as you’re figuring out the process, but once you get the hang of it they snap together quite quickly. I recommend having a thimble for each person making one as there’s lot of pinning involved. A glue gun also helps in the finishing to cover up all of the loose ends. They turn out gorgeous and are great for gifts!
The third little ornaments we made were these decorated star ornaments. I found plain papier-mâché stars already stringed up as ornaments at the craft store and got the idea to Mod Podge strips of holiday-themed scrapbook paper and glitter onto them. I even found some glitter infused Mod Podge to speed up the sparkling process. Some friends painted their stars and my friend Caroline had the idea to add little jingle bells to the tops of the strings for some added festive flair. These were super easy to make and would even be a great project for kids.
Thanks to all my friends for making this little party a huge success! It was wonderful getting into the holiday spirit with each of you. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season with friends and family and finding some time to relax. Happy holidays everyone!
