cropped sweaters-jacket

Totally loving “cropped” sweaters and jackets that fall right at my natural waist. They’re so versatile. As seen here in three looks, from L-R: Pete and Repeat, Cameo, and Bespectacled.

Happy Saturday, everyone! This is the first of a new weekly series to wrap up my week and share a few things that have been going on with me lately. It might change a bit over the coming weeks as I try it out, so please let me know in the comments if there’s anything you’d like to see here or if you have any questions you’d like me to answer.

Loving…

  • Gel manicures | I generally try to save all my extra spending money for clothing and evenings out with friends. But lately I’ve been all about treating my self with gel manicures. My mama treated me to one
  • OPI’s “Did You EAR About Van Gogh” nail polish | It’s such a great neutral, and after I put all the holiday decorations away I’m all about cleansing my space and neutralizing everything, even my nail polish.
  • Air plants | My friend Kitty gave me an air plant for Christmas in a little hanging structure she made out of copper wire and leather cording. It’s so simple and beautiful that now I want to add more hanging air plants in my space.
  • Cropped tops, sweaters, and jackets | I’ve been on a mission to find more cropped sweaters and jackets on recent shopping trips. I found an adorable cropped sweater at Goodwill recently, and a fantastic little cropped bomber jacket coming up on a post next week.

Watching…

  • House of Cards | I left off somewhere in the middle of season 2, and now that season 4 is coming in about a month, I’ve got to get caught up! I’m almost done with season 2 and holy wow! I’m so glad I got back into it!
  • The Bachelor, Season 20 | Ben Higgins was a favorite from the last season of the Bachelorette, and when he was let go I had my fingers crossed he’d be the next Bachelor. Some dreams do come true. Although much of the show is cringe-worthy, it’s the kind of guilty pleasure that makes me happy in my cozy apartment on a cold Tuesday night.

Reading…

  • Lena Dunham’s book Not that Kind of Girl | I absolutely love Lena Dunham. She’s brash, ballsy, and has absolutely no fear. That girl is 100% herself 100% of the time and this book is certainly no different.
  • Style Miss Molly | I have been really getting into some new to me Seattle bloggers lately including Molly of Style Miss Molly. We found each other on Instagram and from there I got lost on her blog. She is so darling, has legs for days, and a great sense of casual to chic style. Her 2015 recap is a great place to start. (Which reminds me… I need to get my 2015 recap up already!)

Listening to…

  • The “Feelin’ Good” playlist on Spotify | It’s jam-packed full of timeless soul music and never fails to put me in a good mood.
  • Chainsmokerz | Ever since I found their song “Roses” on Spotify back in August I have had their album on repeat.
  • Savage Lovecast, Magnum Edition | I love a lot of podcasts, but this one is definitely a favorite. I became a Magnum subscriber (just $36 per year) back in September and am happily running through the backlog of commercial-free episodes of Dan Savage’s gospel. He has opened my eyes to so much and always inspires me to think criticially about even the most unquestioned aspects of our romantic lives. I couldn’t be more grateful.

Planning for…

  • Just about everything for school right now |  I have a three day weekend, but plan to spend a fair amount of time working on plans for all of my units leading up the March report card. I can’t wait to get it all of it in my planner nice and organized so that I can let out a big sign of relief that everything will get done with time to spare (fingers crossed!)
  • Summer camping trips | I can’t wait to go back to Lake Kachess this spring and summer, and am beginning to research other Washington campgrounds I want to visit. I’d like to get a few trips booked soon. I got some more camping gear for Christmas including an air mattress, camp stove, and lantern. Yay!
  • Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic at SAM in February | Kehinde Wiley has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary artists, and I’m in love with his piece that’s in the SAM permanent collection. I saw a bunch of his work in New York, on my last visit, but can’t wait to see this overview of his work over the course of his 14-year career. Nearly 60 pieces will be on display between February 9th and May 8th. His work raises questions about race, gender and politics, depicting contemporary African American men and women using the conventions of traditional European portraiture.

Dreaming about…

  • Long, sunny summer days | …with tons of time to take photos for this here blog. It’s been tough getting photos over the winter, but the days are finally getting a bit longer each week and spring will be here before we know it!
  • A new car | I know it’s silly, unnecessary and definitely a ways off, but I would really love to save up for a Volkswagen Tiguan. Plus it would be so wonderful for camping trips and ski excursions. A girl can dream…
