June update grid

Golly, you guys! I can’t believe I haven’t blogged in nine days! Thanks so much to everyone who contacted me regarding guest posting! I can’t wait to share some of my blogging friends with all of you! These last couple weeks have been a whirlwind, so I thought I’d give you a little life update.

I had a lovely time attending a Mariner’s game with one of my best friends K. Her boss gave her his season tickets for a night and we sat in the ninth row behind the dugout. It was the spot where everyone ran down to have their picture taken before heading back up to the nosebleeds. The cameras were all around us and we were even on TV! It was amazing!

Last week was the last week of school! I made it Art Week in my classroom and we did tons of art projects all week long including this initial art using painters’ tape and tempera paint. We had a blast! I put together adorable candy awards from Reagan’s blog with summer work packs inside of sand pails from Dollar Tree. It was the best thing ever and I’m totally doing it again next year. It was so hard to say goodbye to those sweet kiddos! I celebrated with a dinner out with my best friends to Taylor Shellfish and ate 10 oysteres! (yes, you read that right, TEN oysters)

The day after the last day of school was one of my favorite Seattle events, Fremont Solstice! I look forward to it every year. It’s a great, silly, sunshiney day walking and playing with my friends. I wore my new favorite yellow shorts and had a total blast. If you’re in town some June and haven’t been you need to put this fun event on your list. There’s a parade, a naked bike ride (yes, you read that right, too) and general summer merriment in the hippie capitol of Seattle.

This week, I’ve been at school finishing up my classroom library and working on ProTeach. I leveled my classroom library, got new bins for the books, and sorted and labeled everything. It feels so good to have this done for next year already! ProTeach is Washington’s version of a professional certificate in teaching. Every teacher has to do either ProTeach or National Boards to stay certified after teaching on a residency certificate for the first 3-5 years. I’ve been working on it all year long and just yesterday I finally finished and hit that submit button. It was terrifying! Now I have to wait for my scores to come in August. Keep your fingers crossed for me!! Oh! And if you ever need an editor to cut characters for you I’m now an expert. (See my post-it above for reference).

After finishing my ProTeach portfolio I finally did some cleaning around the apartment and threw on the summer bedding. Yay! I also have a very exciting opportunity in the works and went in for a meeting yesterday. Eeeek! I promise to share more when I know more. To keep confidence high despite my nerves I went with my favorite pink dress. It’s amazing what a dress can do for your psyche. Never underestimate the power of clothes.

I hope your summer is off to a splendid start! I’m officially on summer break now and will resume my regular posting schedule. Thanks so much for reading!
