Where: Training session all day with all of the third grade teachers at one of the district offices. My kiddos had a sub, yet again. I’m looking forward to getting back to my regular routine tomorrow.
Chambray shirt: Banana Republic (Fall 2010)
Skirt: Banana Republic (a couple of years ago…)
Grey tights: Spanx
Mary Janes: Sofft
Details: Today’s outfit is one that’s been in the back of my mind for a couple of weeks and I was super excited to finally pull it out today. I spent the day at a teacher training for which I immediately felt WAY overdressed, but I have to say I felt wonderful. I was initially inspired by Jessica from What I Wore, when she paired her super chic leopard skirt with a rugged chambray shirt. That same week I saw Julie from Orchid Grey put together a similar look with an adorable polka dotted skirt and electric pink belt. Mariel from Preppy with a Twist also loved Julie’s look and put her own spin on it and I knew I could do the same.
My skirt is more A-line and I went with grey tights instead of the black the other ladies chose, but I like how my outfit came together. I have to say I’ll be keeping my eye out for some more interesting belts, especially some vintage and bright options that might find a home in my closet. For today my silver one worked, but was a little more subtle than I would have liked.
Inspired by Julie of Orchid Grey (top left), Mariel of Preppy with a Twist (top right), and Jessica of What I Wore (bottom left) I was excited to have this skirt and shirt in my 30 items so that I could put my own spin on this fun look. When I first bought this chambray shirt I always wore it in the same way: rolled sleeves, over skinny black jeans, jeweled black flats and occasionally with a long pendant necklace. Although I loved the shirt I was stumped on another look. This is one of the great things about being involved with the fashion blogs. It pushes me to get creative and try new things.
What do you think of my take on this look?
