Details Today was the last day of school and a fun yet emotional day for everyone in Room 216. We celebrated summer birthdays and spent most of the day playing games outside for field day. We autographed each other’s end of the year books and I read the final pages of Where the Red Fern Grows. In those final moments we spent all together, with all of the posters, signs, colorful paper and decorations packed up in boxes, we huddled together in the echo of a nearly empty room to hug and reminisce about everything we had learned and experienced together within those four walls. There were tears and laughter and lovely letters passed my direction and I told the kids how much they would always mean to me even beyond the confines, of the 2010-2011 school year. It was so hard to say goodbye knowing I won’t be there next year to see them continue to grow and change.

After a long day of packing up my classroom and emotional goodbyes with students and staff, husband and I came home and headed for a dinner out. We finally got to go to Poquito’s, a new Mexican place a couple blocks away. It was fantastic. I had the Carnitas and husband tried the Ahogada Torta sandwich. Afterwards we met up with some friends at Linda’s and then went to the Crescent for some cheery karaoke fun. I laughed and relaxed and took a break from the stress of the last week. Thank heaven for good friends who pick you up when you’re feeling down.

Seattle Pride is this weekend and Capitol Hill is quickly filling with rainbow flags and excitement. I can’t wait to attend with some friends this Sunday. Look forward to a full report next week!
