Although I took a bit of a blog break in the last several months, that didn’t stop me from getting out and snapping some lovely photos on my summer and fall travel adventures. I’m excited to go back in time a bit and finally share some of the best shots and stories from my 2016. Although I usually think back on 2016 with an air of disgust, I must say scrolling back through a year’s worth of photos over the last week has reminded me that everything in life, every season, every year, hell every day, has it’s own ups and downs, and there were a lot of beautiful moments of 2016 that I won’t soon forget. One of them was Austin and a lovely, quick trip to Zilker Botanical Gardens.

These photos were taken on one of many trips to Austin I made last year. I took these shots in August, when it was impossibly hot and humid. Most of my memories of the beautiful grounds at Zilker consist of profuse sweating, being dive-bombed by mosquitos, and hardly caring because it was so intensely serene there. I felt like I could have stayed and walked around for hours (if I had a jug of ice water and a personal electric fan, of course). The lush greenery, layered stone pathways, and remarkable southern trees, created a canopy of beauty. If you’re ever in the area, I highly suggest a trip, just make sure to pack your bug spray.

For summer outfits in high heat and humidity I found myself living in cotton t-shirts and shorts or short skirts. This one, although layered, was made of light enough fabrics that it was still fairly breathable. I have found this skirt has transitioned very well into fall and winter with tights or tall boots and sweaters, too. It’s become a year-round favorite. I’m a sucker for neutral accessories, and I wore this bag and shoes pretty much all spring and summer long. I can’t recommend this pair of Splendid sandals enough! I totally wore them out last year and am in the market for a replacement pair.
