Today is the twelfth anniversary of 9/11, and I couldn’t help but share these photos I took of the flag flying half staff atop the Space Needle this morning. I try to keep this blog singularly focused on style, but sometimes some things are big enough to acknowledge here in my little corner of the internet. Although I remember the days after 9/11 as full of camaraderie and kindness, when faced with the tragedy and the resulting anger and fear in so many Americans I have to admit that it was a tumultuous and crazy time in the world. It’s important to remember what was lost in those days and to strive to do what we can to be kind to each other while we share this earth. Although there is much out of our control, we do have control over our immediate surroundings, and how our actions impact others in every moment we share. Spread some love. Extend a simple kindness. Acknowledge others. Look deeply into a stranger’s eyes. Make every effort to be present in the current moment instead of fearful of what the future may hold. Life is both long an short at the same time. Never forget those who lost their lives. You never know how much time you have, so make every minute count.
